Tempelhof Airport
The site of Tempelhof Airport is a site with a long history. It derives its name from the Knights Templar who owned the land during the time of medieval Berlin. The site was also used as a parade field by Prussian forces, and by unified German forces from 1720 to the start of World War 1. The site was first designated as an airport in 1923 and remained in use until 2008. During the Cold War the airport used for the airlift, supplying Berlin with necessities, from June 1948 to September 1949 . The buildings stand under heritage and the landing field is now known as the Tempelhofer Park and is used as a recreational area.
