Beelitz Heilstätten
Just outside Berlin is an area called Beelitz Heilstätten. At the end of the 1800s a large hospital complex, a total of 64 buildings, was built there to handle the tuberculous epidemic that was bringing Berlin to a standstill due to the high death rate. During the 2 world wars the hospital was used by the military and then later by the Russians . The complex was closed in 1994 and now stands under Heritage. 12 of the buildings are open for photo tours and some of the old buildings are also used by film studios. |
